The Pill

Extracted from Reader's Digest - Nov 2010

5 important contributions of the oral contraceptive pill:

1) Changed the lives of women.
Nicely put: Gives women the opportunity to decide when they want to start a family.
(The actual: prevent themselves from getting pregnant when they don't even plan to have a family yet.)

2) Regular, less painful periods.
regulate the arrival of period & also shorter & lighter.
(I would like this)

3) No more severe premenstrual symptoms.
mood swings, blemishes, bloated stomachs, fatigue & abdominal cramps.
The pill helps to reduce the hormonal fluctuations - PMS.
(i so need the pill!)

4) Enhanced skin complexion
The pill, with its combination of oestrogen & progestin, can control the production of androgens by the ovaries & their effects on the body.
(Yeah, it's chim! All we need to know is, The Pill, can fight against acnes, oily skin & excessive hair growth will do!)

5) Reduced risk of cancer.
helps in reducing risk of cancers like ovarian cancer, endometrial cancer (cancer of the lining of the uterus) & colorectal cancer (cancer of the colon and rectum).

studies have shown that the Pill helps reduce the lifetime risk of these cancers by 80% in women who take it for at least 10years.
(oh no... 10yrs! what if diagnosed with cancer b4 that time frame??)

other health risks that are reduced: fibroids, ovarian cysts, benign breast disease, pelvic infammatory disease, ectopic pregnancies and iron deficiency.

i think this info is really helpful. women disease are crawling it's way up to the death rates count.
we really should know how to take care of ourselves!
